thorough. I’m sure you’ll skim coat it next time though lol

ItsCoreyLynxxYall · September 22, 2014 at 7:56 AM

Make sure to seal off the room before sanding with plastic sheets and
masking tape. On the floor too. Also put a big box fan in the window, wear
a mask and eye protection. I lost a refrigerator, laptop and desktop
because that material got swept into the cooling fans and shorted them out.
Drywall dust also contains elements that are hazardous to human health and
causes a condition similar to asthma that can lead to permanent brain
damage. I was completely ignorant to all this before I did sanding in my
home and I’m still hocking up mucous with a chemical taste.

Good but too long. I learn fast.

BOZO GIRL · September 22, 2014 at 8:07 AM

I thought I knew everything about patching….i realized after doing ONE
room that when you spackle a hole… the compound shrinks…. I just sanded
and painted it !! I didn’t realize until it was painted that there was an
indent…

Michael Brown · September 22, 2014 at 8:13 AM

What materials are you using?

Christina Lee · September 22, 2014 at 9:06 AM

Awesome video. I’m first time home owner with little experience in this
kind of thing. The house is old and has quite a few rooms with multiple
layers of wallpaper which has resulted in tons of knicks in the walls from
the scraper (until investing in a steamer). Looking at all the knicks
started to make wonder if I should do wallpaper again or even texture the
walls. Your how to videos make it simple for even a novice to understand.
Thanks! :)

I use a large wet sponge to sand down patches to a smooth finish, it also
prevent the compound dust from flying everywhere also no need for a mask or
eye protections…trust me it always works..got the tip from “This Old
House Show”.

Derek D · September 22, 2014 at 3:54 PM

tbh thats i believe your overkilling the spackling, or maybe i just cant
see firsthand how many nicks there are, but anyways great job, do it the
same way i do

residentfan2 · September 22, 2014 at 4:04 PM

What grit sandpaper do you use?

Russ Olinatz · September 22, 2014 at 4:44 PM

Michael Nelson · September 22, 2014 at 5:35 PM

Good vid. I better get started! Thanks.

Russ Olinatz · September 22, 2014 at 6:22 PM

Hello again! Yes, there will be a texture difference. The difference all
depends on the existing texture around the patch. If its thick or built up
from several previous paint jobs, then you want to spot prime these areas
with at least 1/2 inch nap roller at least 2 times to help build up the
surface from smooth to a texture that is similar to the surrounding
texture. What’s your name?

Russ Olinatz · September 22, 2014 at 6:32 PM

@flash74551 Thanks a lot! I appreciate it. I’m glad they helped you!

Russ Olinatz · September 22, 2014 at 6:36 PM

@lowrinlife dents caused by a wall paper scraper and lots of small holes
from nails.

Jack.T Ripper · September 22, 2014 at 6:52 PM

Catherine Todd · September 22, 2014 at 7:30 PM

Yes, it looked so easy, all I could think of was I need those two guys who
really know what they are doing, measuring and cutting! I doubt any of us
could do it so well. Then I read below and really had to laugh: “hooveee1
year ago: “I was laughing my head off, how every panel fits at once. The vid
shoulda shown how the guys swear on every other fucked up measurings and
curse the designer….well done anyway”

And yet is really IS “well done.” Can’t wait to try it ourselves! If you
would send us a crew…

ekruzz · September 22, 2014 at 7:41 PM
