Astoria Hotel (1912)
769 E Hastings Street
Originally known as the R. A. Wallace Building, and the Toronto House/Apartments, it started construction June 10, 1912 with a final cost of ,000. It was designed by the architectural firm of Braunton & Leibert, and the contractors were Allen & Jones. R. A. Wallace was the original owner.
At night, the Astoria’s recently restored neon sign (a later addition to the building) is quite spectacular.
On the left, is Ted Harris Paints, sporting a postwar neon sign. The building itself dates from 1910.
