How far up does the ice and water shield need to go up behind the siding?

Unfortunately this was already built and could not show that particular
detail regarding the j channel. If you look closely, you can see the ice
and water shield from the roof wraps up onto the siding wall and the house
wrap from the siding is installed over the top of the step flashing.
Depending on where you live, some building codes don’t require some of
these things. The best thing I’ve found is install to manufacturer’s specs.

GAF recommends a minimum of 5 inches.
